Friday, May 20: Hebrews 10:24-25; Acts 2:42-47

According to Acts 2:46, in the day of Roman persecution, how and where did the Christians meet? The idea of Christians meeting together in a dedicated church building with hundreds or thousands there was a foreign concept to first-century Christians. If it was not condemned by the Lord to meet in smaller home groups when not safe to meet in larger groups what does that say to you about not forsaking meeting with one another? Process this thought: How can I obey the teaching of Hebrews 10:24-25 when I can’t meet in a large public space? Now think this through: Who can I meet within my or someone else’s home to build up and encourage?

READ: Hebrews 10:25; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-17; Acts 5:29

What does the Bible say should be our attitude and action toward those in authority over us? When is it appropriate to disobey the human authority over us? If, as we have studied it is showing love to not congregate during a pandemic, when might it be appropriate to disobey the government when it comes to meeting together? The Bible commands us to not forsake assembling together as believers. Process for your own self what it means to you to love God and to love your neighbor.

READ: Hebrews 10:24-25; Matthew 27:46; Acts 2:27, 31; 2 Timothy 4:10, 16

Be careful to not misquote the Bible. Hebrews 10:25 is not a complete sentence without vs. 24. What are we supposed to consider when reading the whole sentence? What are some synonyms for the word forsake? Just like abandoning Jesus would be the worst mistake anyone could make, so it is a mistake to abandon the church. If we should not forsake or desert one another, what should we be doing? What are some ways that you can draw closer to fellow churchgoers? Today, think about how you can spur others on to love and doing good works. Encourage others to not abandon the church.
