Read: Acts 1: 9-11; John 14:1-4

The work of Jesus Christ did not end when He died. Where did He go after He died and rose from the grave? He rose up to heaven for a season. What is promised to us at that time that He rose? What does that mean to you that as He left, so you will see Him return? Describe how He left and explain what that means to His return. Today give God praise for being a God willing to rescue the perishing and a just God putting right that which has become perverse.

Read: Exodus 12:1-30; Isaiah 53; 1 Corinthians 5:7

What is the meaning of the Passover lamb? According to verses 12-13, what happened on that night when the Lord freed the Israelite slaves from Egypt? Isaiah 53 describes what the death of our Passover Lamb was like. Who is our Passover Lamb? What does it mean to you that He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows; that by His stripes (wounds) we are healed? Think about the descriptors of Isaiah 53: despised, rejected, stricken by God, smitten by Him, pierced, crushed, punished, wounded, oppressed, and afflicted, a lamb to the slaughter. What imagery do these words give? Jesus is worthy to be our eternal King because he was slain - an innocent Lamb dying for the sins of the world.

Someday, Jesus is going to return to planet Earth. This week’s Digging Deeper helps us consider the Christ who will return.

Read: Romans 3:23-25; 6:22-23; Hebrews 2:14-15

What was the reason (the work) why Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth in the first place? As a perfect, sinless human there was no reason why He should have died according to Romans 6:23. So why did He die? How are we set free from sin? In other words, what had to happen for His work to be finished here?
