The Pharisees created so many rules about how a man could divorce his wife that it would appear that God was okay with divorce for any reason. They were content with looking good on the outside but would not look at the heart attitudes about marriage. So, Jesus set the record straight. Only marital unfaithfulness and abandonment were permissible reasons for a divorce. God hates divorce.  It ruins the symbolism of Christ’s love for His Bride, the Church. His desire is that, over time, marriage relationships would continually grow stronger and that sacrificial love and respect will create a bond that lasts.
