When one looks at John 6:55-71, one will think that this passage sounds like we are to eat the flesh of Christ and drink His blood. Obviously, that is not what it really means. What was Jesus talking about? He had just fed thousands of people bread and fish. He fed their bellies but now He is trying to feed their souls. He calls Himself the Bread of life. He would 'break' that bread when hanging on the cross. His blood would be spilled as well. Eating the Bread of life means accepting the gift of salvation that is only found in Christ. Drinking the blood means accepting that gift of his shed blood that washes away sin. Today, reflect upon His broken body and shed blood for you.
